The sighting of the crescent for the start of the Hijri month of Dhu al Qa’dah 1445 shall be after sunset. on Thursday 09 May 2024.

If the crescent is sighted, in South Africa, 1st Dhu al Qa’dah 1445 shall be on Fri 10 May 2024. Otherwise, Shawwal will last 30 days, with 1st Dhu al Qa’dah falling on Saturday, 11th May 2024.

UUCSA will announce the official results of moon-sighting after confirmation procedures have been completed during Thursday evening, in-sha-Allah.

We urge all Muslims and congregations to go out and seek the sighting of the moon, according to the Sunnah for the determination of the starting and ending of the Hijri months.
