Malawi has suffered the greatest loss of lives due to the effects of Cyclone Freddy. The weather system with gusty winds and torrential rains, is said to be the strongest ever to hit Southern Africa’s east cost.

 

Over 220 are now confirmed dead with scores more feared to be under mud, beneath rubble of collapsed homes or washed away by flash flooding. Roads and bridges have collapsed. Extensive villages lie under water. Thousands of survivors are homeless. They have lost everything and are now sheltered in classrooms and public halls.
