MOURNING A SCHOLAR OF OUR TIME

 

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa (JUSA) received with deep sorrow and sadness, the news of the passing of Mufti Muhammad Rafi Uthmani, the son of Moulana Muhammad Shafi Uthmani RA and also the elder brother of Mufti Muhammad Taqi Uthmani. Inalillahi waina ilayhi rajiun.

 

At the time of his passing on Friday 18 November 2022, Mufti Rafi was president of Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi, the institute of Islamic higher learning which is also the alma mater of many ulama in South Africa as well as across the Muslim world.

 

We pray to the Allah to crown the efforts of Mufti Rafi in the Cause of Deen with His Acceptance. May the Almighty forgive the soul of Mufti Rafi and admit him to His Eternal Mercy of the highest levels of the next abode.

 

Our condolences go to the Uthmani family and all close ones in these moments of grief and sense of loss. May the Almighty be the Comforter of them all. (Aameen)

 

Verily Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, rather he takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars…(Muslim) The Ummah will miss Mufti Rafi RA for his leadership, wisdom and prolific scholarship which is reflected in dozens of titles of books that he authored over the years. May the Almighty protect us from the tests of ignorance, after knowledge has been among us. (Aameen)
