Moonsighting Results | The Start of Muharram 1446 and the New Hijri Year

Following no confirmed reports of moon-sighting, the United Ulama Council of South Africa has determined that Dhu al Hijjah 1445 will end with 30 days on Sunday 7 July 2024. Consequently, in South Africa, the 1st day of Muharram 1446, the start of the new Hijri year, shall be on Monday 08 July 2024, in-sha-Allah. The Day of Aashurah, 10 Muharram 1446 will therefore be on Wednesday 17th July 2024, in-sha-Allah.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Muharram 1446 Hijrī, the new year, shall be on Monday 05 August 2024. At sunset in Johannesburg, the Hilâl will be 28 Hours 13 Minutes, in-sha-Allah.
