Following confirmed reports of  widespread moon-sighting, The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) determined that Dhu al Qa’da 1444 has ended with 29 days in South Africa.Consequently, the 1st day of Dhu al Hijjah 1444 shall be on Tue 20 Jun 2023.

Eid-ul-adha will therefore be on Thu 29 Jun 2023, in-sha-Allah.

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Muharram 1445 and the new Hijri year shall be after sunset on Tuesday 18 July 2023. At sunset in Johannesburg, the Hilâl will be 21 Hours 02 Minutes, in-sha-Allah.
