Health and Wellness Day, Riverlea | 24 Aug 2024

 

JUSA co-hosted a successful event focused on health and wellness along with the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa, Muslim AIDS Programme and the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Podiatry.

 

Scores of event attendees were tested for various conditions including high blood pressure and blood sugar, among other risk factors worthy monitoring and keeping under control for good health and wellness.

 

HIV/AIDS counselling and voluntary testing (HCT) was also done for at the event for, in line with the Department of Health’s strategy for the reduction of new infections of the virus.

 

Women particularly benefitted from the exercise as additional tests for indicators of the risk of cervical cancer were also performed, using the pap smear procedure.

 

Health awareness plays an important part in ensuring that members of the population understand health risk factors in order to prevent or reduce incidence of serious conditions that could be life-threatening or difficult to manage, when they reach advanced stages.

 

JUSA branches collaborate with healthcare professionals and volunteers in conducting Health and Wellness Day events in their respective regions in order to raise awareness of the
importance of maintenance of good health, in the interest of general societal wellbeing.
