Moonsighting: Start of Dhu al Qa’dah 1442

Due to confirmed reports of the sighting of the crescent in the evening of Friday, 11 June 2021, the month of Shawwal 1442 in South Africa ends with 29 days.

Consequently, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that in South Africa, the 1st of Dhu al Qa’dah 1442, corresponds to Saturday 12 June 2021.

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon.

In the light and spirit of the Sunnah, we appeal to jamaats to go out and seek the sighting of the new moon every month. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Dhu al Hijjah 1442 shall be after sunset on Saturday, 10th July 2021, in-sha-Allah.
