AN UUCSA PRESS STATEMENT

The Zionist Regime Attacks and Abducts Humanitarian Activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla

The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) registers its deep dismay and indignation at the brazen act of piracy committed by the Zionist regime in capturing the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza. This reckless violation of international law has once again exposed the criminality of a state that thrives on impunity and contempt for international law and global norms.

The unlawful detention of activists, including Nkosi Mandla Mandela, grandson of the iconic President Nelson Mandela, is not only an affront to South Africa but an insult to the very principles of justice and freedom for which the Madiba dedicated his life. Their courage in standing with the oppressed people of Palestine has been met with the cowardly aggression of a regime that takes pride in murder, starvation and looting.

This act of piracy underscores the urgency for the international community to act decisively against a terrorist state entity that has entrenched itself as an enemy of humanity. Silence and inaction only embolden lawlessness. We therefore call for the total isolation of this pariah state in every sphere of human intercourse— diplomatic, economic, cultural, sporting, and political— until it ends its crimes against the Palestinian people and complies with international law.

South Africa, with its history of struggle against apartheid, cannot stand by while an apartheid state wages genocide with arrogance and impunity. We urge our government, civil society, and the international community to take immediate steps that move beyond rhetoric and towards meaningful sanctions and accountability
