Sighting of the Moon: Start of Dhu al Hijja 1440

There was no confirmed sighting of the crescent in the evening of Thursday 01 August 2019. As such, in South Africa, the month of Dhu al Qa’da 1440 will end on Friday 2nd August 2019, with 30 days.

Consequently, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that the 1st of Dhu al Hijja 1440 corresponds to Saturday 3rd August 2019.

If follows then that in South Africa, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday 12 August 2019, in-sha-Allah.

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon.

In the light and spirit of the Sunnah, we appeal to jamaats to go out and seek the sighting of the new moon every month. The next sighting of the moon for the determining the start of Muharram 1440 shall be after sunset on Tuesday 04 June 2019, in-sha-Allah.

Wassalaam.
