Moonsighting: Eid-ul-Fitr and Start of Shawwaal 1441
There was no confirmed moon-sighting reports of the crescent in the evening of Saturday, 23 May 2020. As such, the month of Blessed Ramadan 1441 in South Africa will end with 30 days, on Sunday, 24 May 2020.
Consequently, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that in South Africa, the 1st of Shawwaal 1441, the day of Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak, corresponds to Monday 25 May 2020.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon.
In the light and spirit of the Sunnah, we appeal to jamaats to go out and seek the sighting of the new moon every month. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Dhu al Qa’da 1441 shall be after sunset on Monday, 22nd June 2020, in-sha-Allah.
We wish all Muslims, the world over, Eid-ul-Fitr Mubarak! May the Almighty accept our fasts, acts of devotion and worship. Aameen.
Wassalaam.
