| Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Leadership Transition

A COMMUNITY STATEMENT

Assalāmu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullāhī wa Barakatūh

All praise belongs to Allah Ta’aala, and peace and salutations be upon our beloved Nabī Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam.

With hearts filled with deep gratitude and solemn reflection, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa (JUSA) marks a historic milestone in its distinguished history. After more than six decades of unwavering service— and over thirty years at the helm as President— Moulana Abbas Aly Jeena has, after consultation with the ‘Ulamā‘ body’s two deputy presidents as well as other office-bearers, entrusted the leadership of the organisation to Moulana Heider Dhorat Saheb, who will serve as Acting President until the next elective Annual General Meeting in 2026.

This voluntary and dignified relinquishing of leadership, due to health reasons, is a rare and commendable gesture, reflecting Moulana’s humility and deep sense of amānah [trust].

Since joining the Jamiatul Ulama Transvaal in 1964, Moulana Abbas Jeena has epitomised humility, wisdom, and steadfast commitment to the Dīn of Allah. Under his stewardship, the organisation has grown in strength, navigated challenges with unity, and broadened its service to the Ummah. His tenure has been marked by his personal quiet sacrifice, heartfelt du‘ās, and tireless dedication— leaving a legacy of integrity and service that will inspire generations to come.

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa expresses profound appreciation to Moulana Abbas Jeena for the decades of selfless service. It is a source of comfort and reassurance that, health-permitting, he will continue to lend his invaluable guidance and wisdom to the organisation’s deliberations and strategic direction.

We humbly supplicate to Allah I to reward all those who have contributed to this sacred work, to grant our outgoing President barakāh in health and time, and to bless the ‘Ulamā‘ with istiqāmah, unity, and lasting acceptance in its ongoing service to Islam and the Ummah.
