In the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that struck the South East Asia region the most, the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa set out to develop infrastructure for the long-term use of the community of Banda Aceh in Indonesia.

The project which was supported by the South African community, including corporations, saw the erection of an entire village of homes, school blocks as well as a mosque. These facilities remain in use today, alhamdulillah.

In the same spirit, following the latest destruction of livelihoods, homes and infrastructure due to yet another tsunami, we appeal to South Africans of goodwill to commit and make contributions that will go towards a fund for the provision of relief and rehabilitation of humanity in need in Indonesia.
