Syria: IDP Apartments in Idlib Province
The nature of the Syrian war in the last 12 to 18 months has evolved in a unique way whereby an extremely large concentration of Internally Displaced People have been forced to move into the Northern Idlib region seeking refuge along the Turkish border. With the lifeline of temporary shelters being short-lived and unable to withstand the harsh weather conditions, a longer lasting and sustainable solution is permanent housing.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa has committed to funding the construction of 24 apartments as part of a housing complex which will house 1500 apartments together with all the related amenities, located inside the borders of Syria in a safe zone about a kilometre from the Turkish-Syria border. Construction has already commenced and the first homes should be available in the next few months. Preference will be given to single headed needy Syrian families to occupy the homes.
