A MEDIA STATEMENT
(For Immediate Release)
The United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) held a constructive and timely engagement with a community leader and socio-political campaigner on immigration, Nkosikhona Ndabandaba (Phakelumthakathi), on Monday evening, 22 June 2026.
The meeting was facilitated by the South African Muslim Council (SAMC) under the leadership of Amir Raheem Nkumane. UUCSA members welcomed Mr Ndabandaba to this special engagement and expressed their appreciation for his prompt and positive response to the invitation to meet with the leadership of the Ulama of the country.
The purpose of the meeting was to better understand the motivations of on-going protest actions and the broader movement behind them; to dispel misconceptions about the Muslim community, and to help ease tensions ahead to the planned national shutdown of 30 June.
The engagement was marked by a spirit of mutual respect and openness. Mr Ndabandaba emphasised that the core focus of his organisation is moral regeneration, the development of responsible manhood, and fostering a shared consciousness of accountability to the Almighty.
Constructive discussions took place on the importance of taking the country forward on a united basis, embracing all citizens irrespective of race, whether black, white, or Indian. Particular emphasis was placed on the urgent need to instil sound values in the youth as a foundation for a stable and prosperous society.
Mr Ndabandaba further provided assurance that the planned protests on 30 June will be peaceful, with a clear commitment to avoiding violence. The demonstrations, he explained, are intended to mobilise government to effectively enforce the laws of the country and address growing concerns around lawlessness.
In reflecting on the engagement, Mr Ndabandaba remarked:
“Just came out of a very positive progress meeting. As a visionary leader, I unite and create environments of engagement between communities.”
UUCSA welcomed the outcomes of the meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing dialogue, social cohesion, and collaborative efforts aimed at promoting peace, justice, and moral renewal in South Africa.
