Moonsighting Results | Start of Muharram 1448

Following confirmed reports of moon-sighting, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that Dhu al Hijjah 1447 has ended with 29 days on Tuesday 16th June 2026.

 

Consequently, in South Africa, the first day of the new Hijri year, 1st Muharram 1448, corresponds to Wednesday 17th June 2026, in-sha-Allah.

 

The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Safar 1448, shall be on Wednesday 15th July 2026. At sunset in Johannesburg, the Hilâl will be 05 Hours 49 Minutes, in-sha-Allah.
