The Crisis in Sudan | A Case of Non-Relenting Nefarious Forces
A REFLECTION
Until the Al-Fashir massacres on 26 October 2025, which killed an estimated 2,500 people in Darfur, global attention on Sudan had been minimal.
While the Gaza Genocide features extreme intensity and a rapidly orchestrated collapse of services in a small area, Sudan’s civil war, pitting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the Sudan National Army, is notable for its sheer magnitude:
Conservative estimates point to 150,000 fatalities since April 2023. Easily, it is the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, with nearly 11 million internally displaced, besides millions who have fled to seek refuge in neighbouring countries.
Social services such as healthcare and education have virtually collapsed due to destroyed infrastructure, restricted access for aid workers, and ongoing violence.
An approximate 25 million people are hungry, hundreds of thousands face catastrophe, and urban centres such as Khartoum are devastated. Reports from Al-Fashir detail ongoing attacks, alleged war crimes including executions, mass killings, and sexual violence.
External powers have reportedly fuelled this conflict for nefarious agendas, disregarding the interests of the Sudanese people, in particular, and by extension, the global Ummah.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa (JUSA) strongly condemns these atrocities and calls for an immediate halt to external interference behind this man-made crisis. JUSA appeals to the warring parties for a truce and safe humanitarian access.
Muslim lands face numerous overwhelming and rolling crises, from Gaza and the Rohingya situation to conflicts in Libya, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon. Akin to a hospital emergency room, the Ummah’s chaotic triage is inundated by grievous wounds. This moment of collective heartbreak, requires seeking rectitude, returning to faith, and reviving the sense of One Ummah.
This calls for solidarity through activism, humanitarian relief, and education about global affairs. We must understand that without resistance, the forces behind this corruption of order will not relent, until they reach even regions considered to be in current relative comfort.
May Allah SWT grant ease and comfort to all those of the Ummah going through difficulties and hardships. (Āmīn.)
