Moonsighting Results | Start of Muharram 1447 and New Hijri Year

Following confirmed reports of moon-sighting, the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA) has determined that Dhu al Hijjah 1446 ended with 29 days this evening of Thursday 26 Jun 2025. Consequently, in South Africa, the 1st day of the new Hijri year and Muharram 1447 corresponds to Friday 27th June 2025, in-sha-Allah.
The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa’s Central Hilaal Committee acts on behalf of UUCSA in the coordination of the sighting of the moon. The next sighting of the moon for the determination of the start of Safar 1447, and the new Hijrī year, shall be on Friday 25 July 2025. At sunset in Johannesburg, the Hilâl will be 20 Hours 26 Minutes, in-sha-Allah.
